Body with a Hole

Body with a Hole is a work made of maple wood and metal connectors. They formed a body-like object lying on the ground, with a large hole at its center. Through this hole, viewers can observe the inner space and structure of the work.

The work explores the concept of ‘emptiness’, especially in the Chinese context, where ‘emptiness’ is a crucial component of the word ‘space’ and also a key concept in East Asian philosophy. From this perspective, Body with a Hole examines the existence of the body as a space, particularly a closed space, and the emptiness contained within it. The work also carries a touch of Chan Buddhism philosophy: after eliminating all illusions, we finally face the original essence of things, like the ‘emptiness’ we feel, after awakening from a long dream.
