Bed (Lack-Back)

Bed (Back-Lack) is the starting point of the bed series, exploring the theme of image and representation. Like René Magritte’s Ceci n’est pas une pipe, this piece invites viewers to question whether the work what they are seeing resembles a bed. Furthermore, the light behind the hole in the center of the work suggests something beneath or behind the surface, drawing the viewer’s gaze. In psychoanalysis, the fantastical illusions in dreams are considered signifiers of one’s desires, and used to find out the locus of unconscious. ‘Behind the phenomenon, there is the noumenon.’
